Students in Mrs. Symmat’s sixth grade science class recently completed children’s books describing the rock cycle. They were challenged with choosing a genre or style, nonfiction/informational or fiction. In each case students applied what they have learned to create a story that would keep younger students entertained while describing the transition in geological time among the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Many of our elementary science teachers welcomed the middle school students to read their projects to the class. This was a great opportunity for mentoring in inter-grade activity that promotes student engagement! Great job, Tigers!
