MS COUNSELING OFFICE
Welcome to the Middle School Counseling Page!
Hello! My name is Kim Leichty and I am your middle school counselor! I started working at West Liberty-Salem in 2017 and I continue to be amazed by the character and resilience of our students. I am eager to get to know all of the current MS students as we work together toward a successful school year.
I was born and raised on a family farm in a small Michigan town. I was very active in choir, theater, and community music groups. After graduating from high school, I went to Western Michigan University to study vocal music. I finished my undergraduate degree, then moved to Harrisonburg, VA for graduate school at Eastern Mennonite University where I got my MA in School and Community Counseling.
While in graduate school, I met a Champaign County native and WL-S alumnus whom I eventually married. Jon and I have three boys who all attend WL-S.
Prior to working at WL-S, I worked as a youth and family therapist at Consolidated Care, Inc. in Urbana. As a clinician, I worked with many children who struggled with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma related disorders. In my new role, I will be working to support students, faculty, staff, and parents by introducing skills that can improve functioning at school and at home.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope that you will contact me if ever you have questions or concerns. I am happy to help however I can.
