KG screening

We are so excited to welcome you and your student to WLS for the 2024-2025 school year!

Our Elementary begins the school year on a staggered start schedule based on last name. Students will attend only two days the first week of school. Please see the schedule below for your student’s start date.

  •  If your student’s last name starts with the letter A-G, they will attend school on Tuesday, September 3.

  • If your student’s last name starts with the letter H-O, they will attend school on Wednesday, September 4.

  • If your student’s last name starts with the letter P-Z, they will attend school on Thursday, September 5.

  • ALL KG STUDENTS will attend school on Friday, September 6 and every day from that point on.

On the day your student starts school (see above), we have a short KG Orientation for parents/guardians that should last 1-1.5 hours. Parents should bring their KG student with them at 8:15, and should not send them on the bus this day or drop them off prior to 8:15.

On Friday, September 6, school starts at 7:45 and students may ride the bus or can be dropped off out front (they can enter the building at 7:25).

Orientation Schedule:

8:15 a.m. Parents meet with students and staff in Elementary Cafeteria. Park out front in visitor parking or along the curb (do NOT park in the fire lane).

8:45 a.m. Parents and students will tour the Elementary building with teachers.

9:15 a.m. Parents and students will learn about school bus procedures.

9:25 a.m. Students will go to school with teachers and remain at WLS for the rest of the day. Mr. Aaron Hollar, Elementary Principal, will meet with parents for 10-15 minutes. He will be available for questions afterward. Parents will leave the building.

2:57 p.m. Students will be dismissed for the day – your student will either ride the bus as planned, or you can pick them up out front.

Please see the list below of things you should prepare for on the first day of school:

  •  Breakfast/Lunch: Please let your student know if they should go through the lunch line, or they are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

  • Snack: Pack one healthy snack for your student.

  • Water Bottle: Your student should bring a water bottle for class as long as it CANNOT spill (bite release, flip straw, squeeze bottle, etc.).

  • Supplies: Bring a labeled bag (plastic bag, trash bag, etc.) with your student’s supplies. You may fill their pencil box with the supplies that will fit. If you ordered supplies through the school, they will be waiting for the student in their classroom.

  • Extra Clothes: Pack an extra outfit for your child (including underwear and socks) and place it in a labeled zip lock bag in case of accidents. Accidents may occur on the first day of school.

  • Gym Shoes: Pack a pair of clean (don’t have to be new) gym shoes for your student to keep at school.

At some point in the next couple weeks, you’ll receive an email from FinalForms prompting you to complete emergency medical and contact information for your student. After you complete FinalForms, we’ll make your child’s teacher name available to you (we will tell you when this occurs).

For your calendar, kindergarten students DO NOT attend school on Friday, May 9 or Monday, May 12, 2025. We hold Kindergarten screening for the following year during those school days.
