
On Thursday, April 28th, students in Pages and Ms. Haney's Creative Writing Class went to the Wexner Center for the Arts to attend the end of year Pages Open Mic. Students toured the most recent exhibition, ate lunch with other participating Pages' schools and met newly published poet Aline Resende Mello. Many WL-S students then participated in their first open mic, MCed by Ohio Poet Laureate Kari Gunter-Seymour.
Students recently submitted their own pieces of art and writing to be published in this year's Pages book.

Mrs. Stayrook’s class celebrated the end of their poetry unit at their very own “Poetry Coffee House”. The coffee house was complete with donuts, juice and milk and a poetry reading! Each student selected their favorite poem that they wrote during the unit and read them aloud to their friends! They did a great job!!





Mr. McGill, Middle School Principal, took a few of our 8th grade WEB leaders to Vancrest this morning to serve residents and do some activities with them! WEB, Where Everyone Belongs, is a volunteer group of 8th graders who host 6th grade orientation and other activities to create a sense of inclusion and welcoming.



There was a small traffic jam in the drop off lane caused by a very cute family this morning. We are happy to report that all ducklings and mom made it safely to Mad River watershed that runs through the WL-S land lab!


High school zoology students visited The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for a behind the scenes tour of the Animal Hospital and more! The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium operates it’s own conservation program and hold more than 7000 species of animals. Students got to see conservation efforts in action and how zoologists and other specialists are rehabilitating animals and aquatic life that are no longer safe in the wild.

Mrs. Douthwaite, CNP at CHWP School Based Health Center and School Nurse, spent the morning in high school health classes teaching CPR and first aide. They were all excited to learn techniques that could be potentially life saving! Thank you, Mrs. Douthwaite!




West Liberty-Salem competed last night at Urbana for the Champaign County Meet.. The boys finished 4th out of 5 teams with 55 points. Winning the meet with 95 points was Mechanicsburg followed by Urbana with 62 and Graham with 41.

West Liberty-Salem JV baseball improved to 8-1 (6-0 OHC) with a 17-3 win over Fairbanks (6-2 overall) on Tuesday. Cody Crawford and Brodey Deam combined to pitch 6 innings of 1-hit baseball, striking out 12. Dylan Wing paced the offense going 3-5 with a double and 5 RBI. Deam was 2-5 with 4 RBI. Jacob Griffith was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI and Caleb Hershberger went 3-4. WL-S JV baseball next plays West Jefferson at home on Thursday.

First grade classes hatched baby chicks last week! The students were learned about the eggs and hatching process and waited patiently for the baby chicks for 21 days! Our students and teachers are so excited!




West Liberty-Salem middle school track and field competed Friday night at the Mechanicsburg Mid-Season Invitational. The boys finished 12th out of 17 teams with 17.5 points. Winning the meet with 136.5 points was Marysville Bunsold followed by Mechanicsburg with 73.5 points.

West Liberty-Salem JV baseball defeated rival Mechanicsburg 10-3 on Friday evening to improve to 6-1 (4-0 in the OHC). Peyton Hull and Nathan Webb combined to pitch 7 innings allowing just 4 hits, one earned run and striking out 7. Owen Deere led the offense going 3-3 with 1 RBI and three stolen bases. Jacob Griffith was 2-4 with 2 RBI and three stolen bases.
West Liberty-Salem JV baseball improved to 7-1 (5-0 in the OHC) with an 8-inning, 7-5 win at Greeneview on Saturday. Jacob Griffith singled in Aaron Campbell in the top of the 8th for the go-ahead and eventual game winning run. Dylan Wing, Jacob Evans and Brodey Deam pitched 8 innings combining for 15 strikeouts and allowing just 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Owen Deere led the offensive attack going 3-4 with 1 RBI. Griffith and Deam each had 2 RBI. The JV Tigers are back in action on Monday at home against Northeastern.
