It’s another Senior Shout-out! Today we recognize Leah Borst, Emily Bolton, Hannah Bowman and Regan Boyd! Congratulations and best wishes to these four young women!

Mrs. Orahood’s fifth grade science students have been studying sound waves! They wrapped up the unit with six experiments that demonstrate how different sounds are created. The labs included rubber band guitar cups, Sound Bites Tool with suckers & tinkling tines ( fork on a string), trumpet straws, tuning forks, musical water glasses, and slinky waves. Many of the supplies they used are lying around your house, so ask them to give you a demonstration. They were pretty neat, and the students had a lot of fun!

No motivation to cook on this snowy, spring day? No problem! Support the Athletic Association by ordering or dining in at Iron City! 10% of all orders go directly to our Athletic Program!

West Liberty-Salem joined four other Champaign County schools in a county wide art competition this week. Art works were displayed and judged at The Mike Major Sculpture Gallery in Urbana on Tuesday. A very talented group of artists represented WL-S including Regan Boyd, Alexandrea Caldwell, Mearic Campbell, Arianna Chapman, Ethan Costentino-Ilges, Ryan Motzko, Logan Saylor, Holden Shafer, Hallie Smith, Aubrey Williams, and Montana Zinn. Several mediums of art were featured in the competition with WL-S artists placing in each category.
Awards were given Aubrey Williams, 1st place-Mixed Media; Ryan Motzko, 3rd place-Black & White Drawing; Holden Shafer, 3rd place-Painting. WL-S took the top three photography spots with Mearic Campbell in 1st place, Alexandrea Caldwell in 2nd, and Regan Boyd in 3rd.
A reception will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening featuring roughly 100 pieces of art from all county schools. Due to a scheduling conflict for our students who will attend the Academic Excellence Banquet on Thursday, The Mike Major Art Studio will be open from 12-8 p.m. for anyone who wishes to attend. During the reception hour, please bring just 1 guest.

Our HS Zoology students had a ‘Tide Pool Tasting’ and experienced how marine life is used in cuisine all over the world! The menu included clams, scallops, mussels, octopus and shrimp that students prepared themselves (with the help of Mrs. Smith, of course!). They really enjoyed the experience, testing their palates, and a few of them just might end up foodies!

We had a record turn out of students supporting students last night at our ‘White Out’ baseball and softball games! It was great to have a student section again and cheer both teams on to a victory! Tonight, students are invited to support their friends at the boys and girls track meet. The theme is camo! HS students are admitted free (masks are required at our events but are sometimes removed for photo opportunities.)

Last week, Key Club discussed ways they could encourage students to engage with their peers by supporting them in their respective extra and co curricular activities . The idea of students supporting each other across extracurriculars was introduced during a leadership conference attended by a handful of our students recently. Key Club kicks off ‘Students supporting Students’ this week encouraging them to attend Track & Field, Varsity and Reserve Softball and Baseball events for the next two weeks, complete with themed student sections. The idea will be carried out through the end of the school year and into the fall/winter season. HS students will be admitted to the themed events free of charge thanks to Mr. Jake Vitt! This week’s events are attached. We hope to see our students there!!

Any 18 year old, graduating senior, Genric is hiring for full time security positions! Details are attached.
