West Liberty-Salem High School held their annual White Tiger Award Ceremony on Wednesday, February 17. The White Tiger Award is presented to students in grades 9-12 who work hard, have a great attitude, give from the heart, and are a positive role model for other students. Like a white tiger, these students are rare, and this ceremony is all about celebrating the unique impact they’ve had on the staff member who nominated them. This year a total of 21 students were honored by a teacher, counselor, or the Athletic Director. Each White Tiger recipient qualifies for a scholarship provided by the Angie Warye Family. In addition to recognition and scholarship potential, each student receives a certificate and letter written by the staff member who nominated them. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients!

February is Heart Health Month, and at West Liberty-Salem, our students are learning early about the benefits of keeping hearts healthy. Each year, Mrs. Kim Hollar uses this time to teach students about heart health, healthy eating and physical and emotional well being, and The Kids Heart Challenge has become a big part of that!
The Kids Heart Challenge is supported by the American Heart Association. This is a fun event every year, where our students learn about staying healthy while raising money for the American Heart Association. The mission is simple, “Through kids heart challenge, kids learn jump rope skills, how their heart works, and raise money for kids with special hearts. Have fun, learn how to stay healthy, and make a difference in the lives of others.”
Our students raised almost $14,300 for the American Heart Association this year! Ten students raised over $200 each. Pictured below are our top fundraisers. Back row: Izzy Semaan, Solly Warye, Layne Ferryman, Amelia Sidders. Front row: Sophia VanHouten, Avery O’Connors, Calvin Cotrell, Reagan Evans
Not pictured: Mason Wallace, Blake Eaton
We are proud of each of our students for being part of a great cause, and helping make a difference for “kids with special hearts”.

Hello WL-S families, Tonight are Parent/Teacher conferences until 6:15 PM. During conferences, our new School-Based Health Clinic will be open. This would be a great opportunity, to stop by and pre-register your child for medical services in the event that they would be ill and need to see Jen Douthwaite, our Licensed Nurse Practitioner. You can also register online using Final Forms from your phone that can be found on our website under the menu tab.
Thank you, Kraig Hissong
