Mrs. Brandie Roberts and her college physics class shared a fun STEM activity with first graders this week! The activity used both Math and Science and combines concepts that first graders are currently learning with physics concepts. Physics students explained different concepts of Force and Newton’s Law and ended the activity with a friendly game of Tug of War! Tug of War shows how different levels of force and gravitational weight create differences in Frictional Force. Attached is a video link for first graders in Mrs. Spring/Patton's boys vs. girls tug of war! https://1drv.ms/v/s!ApfkeF_mFKtlmRXHHd--IQU-Q6PT

Fifth Grade students in Mrs. Orahood’s science classes have been studying the eclipse through labs provided by COSI! The first lab they did called "Create a Corona" allowed students to create a chemical reaction that created a yellow burst on paper that they covered with a black disc. The second lab was " Let's Explore UV Light". Students used pipe cleaners and clear UV beads to make a bracelet that reacts to sunlight and turns the beads different colors. They had a great time learning about the upcoming solar eclipse while applying other scientific concepts in their lab work!

Students in Mrs. Alycia Smith's class wrote and published a class biographical book this week! They interviewed a classmate learning their birthdays, their favorite things, and shared what they enjoy doing together! After they wrote their biographies, they drew pictures of who they interviewed. They did a great job and are very proud to be published authors and illustrators! Keep up the great work, class!

More than 50 students and 10 staff members spent some of the spring break assisting our neighboring Indian Lake community. They spent the day working with their community members, cleaning up debris, and learning the residents' stories. If you'd like to see more about the community clean up efforts, visit the United Way of Logan County Facebook page and/or website. Great job, WLS students, and thank you for selflessly giving to your community on your Spring Break!

Life is better when you dance! Our 7th and 8th graders had their Spring Fling dance at the end of the school day today! They danced, played games, and enjoyed the fun with their friends. In lieu of paying for a ticket, students donated non perishable food items that will go to the Indian Lake food pantries.

Today we are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day! We have some resources we are sharing with our students that can help them understand how to end the stereotypes, which is also the theme for this year. The link below is a short video that will help answer questions that younger students may have. Help us 'End the Stereotype', and talk with your students about how everyone has their very own identity that makes everyone special in their own way! https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/
