Mark your calendars for two important upcoming events for high school students!
FAFSA Night is scheduled for January 17th! Seniors, families, and any underclassmen interested in learning the Financial Aid process should plan to attend. Seniors and their families will be able to apply at the event, however you must create your FAFSA ID at least one week prior.
On January 24th, West Liberty-Salem will host a College Fair and College Credit Plus night. Join us to meet with college admission counselors and learn about the CCP program offered at WL-S. Students, and their parents/guardians, who plan to enroll in CCP during the 24-25 school year are required to attend.
Details are attached for both events. Save the dates and join us!

Congratulations to this week's High School Gold Card winners!

Champaign County Special Olympics wheelchair basketball game date change! The game, originally set for 1/27, will now take place during halftime of both JV and Varsity boys basketball games on February 2nd. Check out the flyer for more details!

The Second Annual Andy Detwiler Memorial FFA jacket was presented today by the Oelker family to Freshman FFA member Maverick Reames. Andy Detwiler, a pillar in the agricultural community, was a lifelong farmer, creator of his YouTube channel ‘Harmless Famer’, and national motivational speaker sharing his message of hope and tenacity. Detwiler, who was a four-year member of the West Liberty-Salem Chapter of the FFA, was also an active member of the Champaign County Fair Board for many years speaking to his passion for youth in agriculture. And, because of that passion, Shane Oelker, his mother Cindy, and family Amber, Chris, Mo and Lucas, continue to share his story and present a jacket to one deserving Ag student each year. Today, the jacket was presented to Maverick Reames by Shane Oelker, Cindy Oelker, and Lucas Piacentino. Maverick was joined by his parents Miranda and Max Reames, and Mrs. Trista Havens.

We are excited to welcome students back to campus tomorrow! Here are a few tips to be ready after an extended holiday! See you tomorrow!

So many Christmas parties brought joy and happiness to our students this week! Here are some highlights of the festivities in elementary! Thank you to so many parents who attended, sent snacks, provided games, and helped spread Christmas cheer to our students!

High school Key Club hosted their annual holiday volleyball tournament today! Participants began the tournament first thing this morning, playing all the way through lunch. Spectators were able to watch the tournament throughout the day if they were finished with their class work. Annie Kauffman, high school volleyball coach served as today's referee! It's always a fun way to wrap up holiday break week!

Our middle talent show never disappoints! From the taken to the emcee's there was shortage of entertainment! The talent show is hosted by our student council who organize the acts, games, jokes, stage crew and lighting! Thank you to everyone who made it a great show!

Elementary students were treated to cinnamon rolls provided by the PTO, along with a special visit from Santa himself! Students were excited to share their wishes, chat, or receive a hug from the big guy! Thank you, Santa, for making a special trip to see us, the PTO, and Elf Jarzab for his masterful introductions!

The middle school talent show will be live streamed at 8 AM tomorrow morning! Please visit WLStigers.org and click on the live events tab to watch. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, a live audience will not be permitted. In the event of a school delay, the talent show will be rescheduled for another day.

West Liberty-Salem high school welcomed the class of 2023 back to campus for lunch today. More than 30 students signed up for the event and joined us for pizza with friends. Teachers stopped in to visit and our guidance office offered scholarship and job opportunities. Thank you to everyone who was willing to join us! A great time was had by all!

The 7th grade Math-8 students worked on a graphing review activity after finishing their graphing unit that included transformations and graphing linear equations. Students did AMAZING! Like some patchwork quilts, each grid was completed by a different student in the class. I think they enjoyed it, as much as Mrs. Mazza had fun watching them create it!

Little Dribblers will perform at half time of the JV and Varsity girls' games tonight, December 18th, and half time of JV and Varsity boys' games tomorrow. JV games will begin at 6:00 PM. MS girls' basketball also hosts a home game in our auxiliary gym this evening beginning at 5:30 PM.

Would you or someone you know enjoy a free meal on Christmas Day? Dine in, pick up, and delivery options are available! See flyer for details!

Elementary student council hosted breakfast for staff bright and early this morning! They treated them to waffles, muffins, fruit, yogurt and more. Pictured are our festive student council servers!

Caizen Anders, pictured right, is this year's elementary Spelling Bee Champion! His brother, Ozzy Anders, pictured left, was runner up. Top spellers from fourth and fifth grade classes participated in the spelling bee earlier this week. Spellers went for a total of 67 rounds, while Anders and his brother went back and forth for 53 of those. Caizen will take an online test in February that will determine his placement in the State Spelling Bee this Spring. Congratulations to our champion Caizen, runner up Ozzy, and all other particpants!
