Good morning! We wanted to provide you with a few updates on what to expect as we wrap up August!
Elementary students will receive notice the week of August 24 regarding your student’s teacher. You will not receive a paper notice this year, so be on the lookout for an email. We will notify you when those e-mails are sent.
Elementary will begin with the traditional staggered start. KG will attend just one day on Sept. 8, 9, 10, or 11. All KG will begin on 9/14. Grades 1-5 will also just attend a selected day on September 8, 9, or 10 with all students attending on 9/11.
Parents of freshman should check your e-mail this week for information and a sign up link for your student to attend iPad in-service next week. The email is from Rich Johnson. Students in grades 10-12 will receive info on iPad pick up dates very soon.
Finally, Final Forms will be up and running soon. This is how you will complete all necessary paperwork including emergency medical forms, free and reduced lunch forms, etc. We will notify you when this is available. We apologize, but there will not be open house this year. We will include information on fees and when to bring supplies when final communications are sent.
We look forward to making this a great year! Go Tigers!
Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Varsity/JV football and basketball cheerleaders!
Hello, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent of West Liberty-Salem Local Schools. As previously shared, WL-S will be providing two learning options this school year: on-campus or 100% remote, online learning. There are two documents we encourage you to read before making your commitment. One explains in-person learning and the other explains remote learning. These can be found by visiting the district website, click menu, then click COVID-19 information. There you will find a Remote Learning Guide and an In-Person Learning Guide. If after reading the documents, you have further questions you’d like answered before making your decision, please reach out to the appropriate building principal.
Parents of students who will participate in the remote, online option for the first semester of the 20-21 school year, need to call the office this Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to register your student.
Again, to enroll your student in the online, remote learning option, please call 937-465-1060, extension 101 for the Elementary and extension 102 for MS/HS by 3:00 pm, Friday, August 7th.
School supply lists have been finalized! Check them out here or by clicking on documents and locating the student supply lists.
We are welcoming some students back on campus! They have been busy with band camp, soccer camp, show choir camp, and the first annual Cross Country Midnight Mile! They are learning to navigate the new norm and are excited to be back!
Hello,
Yesterday evening the Board approved a revised School District Calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. The biggest change to note is that the school year now starts on September 8, 2020 for students (The day after Labor Day). With growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus at this time, we have moved a majority of our Professional Development days normally spaced throughout the calendar to the week before school start for students. This will allow school staff time to practice procedures and plan for the school year based on the county level we are in at the time. You can view the revised calendar on our website under the menu tab, 2020-2021 Printable School Calendar or use this link:

Hello, This is Kraig Hissong Superintendent with an important reminder. Today is the last day to complete the survey about in-school or online instruction for next year and about bus transportation. Please go online today and use the link to our survey,
https://forms.gle/GGeupLMyoWjjuEpR7
to provide the school with preliminary information about how your child(ren) will be instructed next year. This survey is not binding. It is simply a way that we will be able to make plans for this school year. Please answer survey questions with what you feel you will most likely do. The survey is very short. Final decisions for online SchoolsPLP or in-person (regular) school instruction will be made by mid August.
Also, we have had many great questions from the community about instruction for next year and what it will look like. We have completed a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document to provide families more information. If you have submitted a question to me, the answer will most likely be found in this document. We will continue to update this document as things change. If you feel the need to resubmit your survey after reading the information from the FAQ document that can be found on our website, you may do so. we will take you most recent survey submission. Please understand that we will do our best to keep you up to date. Here is a link to our FAQ document:

Thank you,
Kraig Hissong
Hello Families,
First, I want to thank you all for your patience. I know many of you have questions about the upcoming school year. Info from the Governor’s office has allowed districts to begin putting in place “Return to School Plans”. Please see our return to school plan on the home page of our website or attached to an email sent to each family. Attached is a link to a survey where we would like more information about your choice to send your child back to traditional WL-S instruction at school or to participate in the schools online curriculum provided by schools PLP
Link to survey: https://forms.gle/GGeupLMyoWjjuEpR7
Again, please check the school’s website for the Return to school plan and the Champaign County Plan and be sure to complete a survey for each child coming to WL-S this fall. If you do not receive an email or text with a link to the survey, you may email me, Khissong@wlstigers.org, to receive one. Surveys are due on July 24, 2020
Thank you very much and we look forward to another great year with all of you, even if this year looks a little bit different than normal. We greatly appreciate your support and partnership and will do our very best to keep you informed about changes to the school year as decisions are made.
Sincerely, Kraig Hissong
