Hello WL-S Families, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with a reminder that Open House is tomorrow evening from 5 PM to 7 PM. Students with last names from A to M are encouraged to come from 5 PM to 6 PM and those with last names N to Z can come from 6 PM to 7 PM. If for some reason you have a conflict with your assigned time, you may come as you are able. We are hoping this will help to reduce the number of people in hallways and classrooms tomorrow evening while still allowing students to see their classrooms and meet their teachers and staff. Open house is optional and you do not have to attend. As everyone knows, COVID cases are very high right now in Champaign and Logan counties. As cases rise more schools are beginning to see the impact of quarantines of students and staff. Therefore, both of our local Health Departments are encouraging everyone to do their part to help keep students and staff in school. Based on current quarantine rules that we have shared, those who are vaccinated or wear a mask indoors are far less likely to have to quarantine due to being a close contact of a positive case. Our School Board respects everyone’s choice to wear a mask or to receive a COVID vaccination. You are encouraged to wear a mask tomorrow evening if you are not vaccinated to reduce the chance that you will have to be quarantined due to COVID. We are very excited to see everyone tomorrow night and look forward to the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
Tonight, the WL-S Tigers take on the Benjamin Logan Raiders at 7 PM. The game will be live-streamed for free and broadcast at http://peakofohiotv.com/! Kick off is at 7 PM. Go Tigers!!

Jim Godwin, a member of the WL-S Tiger’s friday night chain gang for more than three decades, was recognized for his service before Friday night’s match up against the Graham Falcons. Senior football player Logan Godwin, along with Athletic Director Jake Vitt and Head Football coach Dan McGill presented Godwin with a plaque of appreciation. Jim began working as a member of our football “chain gang” 32 years ago and has never missed a game since. He made it a goal to work the sideline until his grandson’s (Logan Godwin) senior season. Friday night, August 20, 2021, Jim worked his final game. The West Liberty Salem School District along with the football program would like to thank Mr. Godwin for his many years of service and selfless dedication to our student athletes.

Are you, or someone you know, interested in joining our team of fantastic teachers, administrators and staff? We have an opening for a high school paraprofessional! Details are posted!

Hello WL-S families,
I hope that your summer is going very well and that you have been able to enjoy some summer fun! School is gearing up for another year and I know many of you have had questions about what this year brings. I am very excited for this school year, and I look forward to hopefully having school return to a new normal. The biggest questions surrounding COVID are usually around masks and vaccinations and if the school district will require them for this school year. To help answer these questions I have placed a document, 2021-2022 School Plan, Link https://5il.co/x63t on the website. It goes into detail about expectations for next school year. I do want to take a moment however to highlight a few things. 1. Masks will NOT be required for this school year (at this time) accept on school busses. 2. Vaccinations are not required for students and staff this school year. However, both are highly recommended by the Ohio Department of Health and the CDC, especially masks if you are not vaccinated. 3. Quarantine guidelines are greatly impacted this year and can be reduced or eliminated if you are vaccinated or wear a mask. Please review the document posted on the website/live feed for details. It may help you and your children to choose how you approach vaccination or masks this school year. 4. All students are eligible for Free breakfast and lunch again this school year! Take advantage of this savings. However, it is still very important for families that feel they may qualify financially for Free and Reduced Lunch, to complete the application since it will still impact school fees, etc. 5. A health clinic will be provided by the Community Health and Wellness Partners, WL-S School-Based Health Clinic from August 23-27 to provide wellness checks, school vaccinations, and if requested, COVID vaccinations for ages 12 and older. Please call 937-887-0075 and leave your name and phone number to set up an appointment. Enjoy the remainder of summer and we look forward to seeing all students and families for an Open House on Monday, August 30th and the first day of school on August 31st.
Thank you,
Kraig Hissong
