Today is a very special day at West Liberty-Salem! It’s Margaret Kite’s 75th birthday, and we are celebrating! Mrs. Kite has been a fundamental part of the WL-S community for 48 years! She continues to serve in a variety of capacities, but what keeps her coming back are the students. Over the years she has served as a bus driver, cafeteria cashier, transportation supervisor, sub aide/secretary, and a ticket taker for MANY ball games! When asked about her years at WL-S she said, “I don’t have a goal for how many years I’ll keep coming back. It doesn’t seem like 48 years because I love what I do, and I love the kids.” And we certainly love Mrs. Kite! If you happen to know her, or see her around, please make sure you join us in wishing her a very happy birthday!
Update on the JDRF Holiday bake sale!
Give your share to show you care! ‘Donate and take’ your goodies anytime between 7:45 & 3:30. We’ll do the baking, you do the donating! Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s ‘chili’ outside, but it’s hot in here! It was WL-S staff Chili Cook-Off day! This annual contest always brings some pre-holiday, friendly competition amongst friends and co-workers. Andy McGill and Matt Westfall were this year’s lucky judges. They tasted seven unique styles of chili including classic, sweet, spicy and HOT to determine this year’s winners! Taking first place was Jeff Lynxwiler with his spicy chili; second place with a classic chili was Allison Wygal; and coming in third and featuring the Carolina Reaper pepper was Aaron Lauck (if there was a category for the hottest, this was definitely it!).
Lydia Moell, track and field stand out, signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her pole vaulting career at West Virginia University this fall. Moell, who was part of the 2019 State Champion Track and Field Team, helped her team secure the title when she vaulted an impressive 12’2”, and placed 4th, individually, in division III. Moell was also part of the 2019 state runner up cross country team. The full story can be found at the link below! Congrats, Lydia!
