Check out the Tiger Cheer team on tonight's Chalk Talk on Peak of Ohio!

Earlier this week, Mrs. Roberts' Physics class from Edison State visited ColePak, a leading manufacturer of paper partitions in North America. ColePak serves industries such as glass container, automotive, pharmaceutical, and other packaging sectors, operating out of a 300,000-square-foot facility in Urbana, Ohio. The field trip gave students valuable insight into how STEMM skills, like engineering, are applied in various industries. They also learned about the range of career opportunities available, from entry-level positions to more advanced roles that require college degrees. A big thank you to ColePak for being such gracious hosts and providing a tour that was both informative and relatable for our students!

October is Manufacturing Month, and WL-S once again participated in the annual Champaign County Design Challenge, sponsored by local businesses and the Educational Service Center (ESC). The challenge encourages students to explore real-world problem-solving and innovation, both key components of a career in manufacturing.
Since the challenge’s inception, Chris Smucker, art teacher at West Liberty-Salem Middle/High School, has served as the organizer and advisor for our student teams. Under his guidance, the competition has grown from a single group to as many as five teams participating each year. The challenge changes annually, with past projects involving floating designs, sailing machines, stabilizing structures, and more.
This year’s challenge focused on catapult launching, testing students’ engineering skills and creativity. Each school within the county forms their teams to work on the challenge, and a panel of local experts, including engineers, business leaders, and other professionals, visit each school to judge the teams and select one winner to advance to the county competition.
Last Thursday during homeroom, our teams were judged, and we’re excited to announce that the winning team from West Liberty-Salem was:
Max Rudolph, Quentin Rudolph, Nathan Neuerman, Isaiah Reminder, and Clay McAuley!
This talented group earned the opportunity to represent our school at the county competition on Friday at Urbana City Park, where they competed against teams from other county schools and placed 3rd overall!
Several team members, along with supportive students from other teams, attended the event on their day off from school to cheer on their classmates.
A huge congratulations to Max, Quentin, Nathan, Isaiah, and Clay!
Although some team members—Quentin, Isaiah, and Clay—couldn’t attend the county competition, Max, Connor Garman-Ferguson, Nathan Neuerman, Brady Kauffman, and Greyson Horsley proudly represented the team at the event.
Great job, everyone!

The West Liberty-Salem FFA Chapter recently hosted a Leadership Development Event where a multitude of staff and community members conducted mock job interviews for several FFA students from in and around Champaign County. The FFA Employment Skills Leadership Development Event (LDE) gives student participants a leg up on their future careers by developing the skills needed to seek employment in the industry of agriculture. There were over 50 students who competed the interview contest including three WL-S students, Greyson Horsley, Bayleigh Deam, and Savannah McClintick. Thank you to our many volunteers who interviewed and graded resumes, FFA members who volunteered to help, and to Mrs.Havens for orchestrating the event!

What makes a better day than supporting our Tigers? We don't know, but we found one more opportunity at the OHC All Star Volleyball game at 6:00 at Cedarville!
Good luck to all of our competing Tigers today! Boys AND girls cross country, cheer, and volleyball! Go Tigers!

Join us bright and early tomorrow morning when we send our boys and girls cross country teams off to state in style! The send off will begin at 7:10 at West Liberty-Salem! The bus will then head North on 68 by West Liberty Police escort through the Village! Join us at school, or downtown, and cheer them on before they continue on to the STATE MEET!

Please help us wish our high school cheerleaders GOOD LUCK at the OHC cheer competition tomorrow! They take the mat at 11:04 at Northeastern High School, and they'd love to bring a crowd! If you are looking for something to do tomorrow, this is a perfect chance to support the girls who support so much at school and in the community! Good luck, Tiger Cheer!

This week, the WLS Varsity Choir performed at the Bellefontaine High School Fall Choral Festival. Choirs from Bellefontaine, WLS, Indian Lake, Calvary Christian, and Jackson Center all performed for each other and for members of the community. The concert ended with all the choirs joining together to sing a piece titled “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”
We would like to congratulate our singers and the choirs from the other schools in attendance on a great performance! We also would like to thank Mr. Brice Henry for inviting us to take part in the event!

We are excited to launch our first middle school fundraiser to support initiatives like Gold Cards, staff morale boosters, classroom activities, and other projects that Mr. McGill helps us fund!
Students are encouraged to help fundraise and details are attached that describe how you can help! There is even a nice prize on the line for the homeroom that raises the most money! Contributions will be tracked by using the QR code on the flyer, which includes a field for donors to indicate which student referred them to the fundraiser. Be sure to indicate your students’ name (or a student you know that attends our middle school) if you wish to contribute!
This fund plays a vital role in celebrating our staff and students, so if you feel so inclined to contribute, your efforts will be valued and much appreciated!
Donations will be accepted by scanning the QR Code on the attached flyer, or by sending a check with your student. Checks should be made payable to West Liberty-Salem and note ‘Thanksgiving Fundraiser’ on the memo line.
Thank you for your support!

This year’s High School Community Service Day was a resounding success, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and volunteers. “Every year, I am truly amazed by how our community comes together to make a difference, and this year was no exception,” share high school principal Greg Johnson.
More than 330 students volunteered at various locations throughout Logan and Champaign Counties, demonstrating their commitment to service and community engagement, including:
• Logan County Bike Path: Cleaning up trash to beautify our local trails.
• Habitat for Humanity: Helping build homes for those in need.
• Lutheran Social Services: Supporting families and individuals in our community.
• Marmon Valley Farms: Assisting with farm activities and care for animals.
• Camp Kirkmont: Helping prepare the camp for future visitors.
• Hilliker YMCA: Engaging with community programs and activities.
• Green Hills: Providing support to local residents.
• Guntown Road and WL Village: Cleaning up areas to promote environmental responsibility.
• WL Business Association: Supporting local businesses.
• Lions Park, Urbana YMCA, Urbana Senior Center: Enhancing community spaces and services.
• Caring Kitchen: Preparing meals for those in need.
• Urbana Bike Path and Barely Used Pets: Assisting with various community initiatives.
• Champaign County Fairgrounds: Helping with event preparations.
In addition to the off-campus volunteers, students also stayed on campus to help in many areas, including picking up trash, washing pumpkins, scrubbing potatoes for the concession stand, and assisting in the athletic department and elementary classrooms. Their efforts showcased the spirit of service that define our school and community.
A special thank you goes out to our dedicated teachers, para-pros, secretaries, and coaches who volunteered to chaperone and work alongside our students. It was wonderful to see how much fun everyone had, and their support made a significant impact.
Also, a big thank you goes to Tyler Cordell and our bus drivers for ensuring our students made it safely to and from their destinations. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Finally, a HUGE thank you to Molly Smith and Candace Watson for their extensive planning and coordination over the past several weeks. Your hard work and dedication made this day possible, and it did not go unnoticed. As we reflect on another successful Community Service Day, let’s carry this spirit of service forward into our daily lives and continue to make a difference in the lives of others. Please enjoy this short clip of our students at work!

First graders and their fourth-grade book buddies had a great time yesterday cleaning out pumpkins and counting seeds. The winning pumpkin had 751 seeds! Afterward, the first graders drew faces on their pumpkins. Mrs. Stayrook, with a little help from Mrs. Warrick, surprised them by carving the pumpkins while they were at specials. When the students returned, the jack-o'-lanterns were all lit up, and they absolutely loved it!
