Fourth graders carved pumpkins with their first-grade book buddies on Monday morning! They had a great time designing the perfect spooky or cute faces for their pumpkins! Fourth graders made it educational and fun by practicing counting skills. The pairs counted pumpkin seeds by separating them in groups and counting by odd numbers, even numbers, fives and tens! Mixing grade levels teaches leadership, following directions, sharing, and allows more practice for skills both first and fourth graders need every day!

High School held a Homeroom Halloween decorating challenge! A celebrity panel of judges have tallied their votes and the results are in!   Our Celebrity Guest Judges comprised of Mr. Johnson, Deputy J and Coach Red/Mr. J McGill had their hands full selecting from 6 Halloween decorated homerooms. It was an epic battle this year between our top 2 performing rooms. Our top 2 rooms delivered on the WOW factor with lights, décor, acting and thrills, but when the votes were cast there could only be one overall winner. This year’s grand champion Halloween Homeroom is ….Mrs. Arnold with her spooky cast and Haunted Mansion. In second place by only a few points is Mr. Cotrell’s Homeroom which featured epic lights, perfect music and on-point dancing. The competition rounded out with Mrs. Robert’s room in 3rd with excellent use of resources, Mrs. Spencer’s room in 4th, Mrs. Harmon’s room in 5th and in typical fashion, honorable mention goes to Mr. Lynxwiler’s homeroom. In the spirit of Fall Fun, Key Club will provide a full dessert party to Mrs. Arnold’s HR and consolation prizes will be delivered to Cotrell and Roberts for their valiant efforts. Thanks for everyone for participating.

West Liberty-Salem students enrolled in Physics through Edison State built an awesome water rocket as a part of their unit on Newton’s Law and Friction! Mrs. Brandie Roberts, who also teaches high school physical science, assisted her class in a successful launch on Friday morning! They spent several days building the rocket followed by a test launch, and ultimately very successful final launch. Students were required to use an astroblade and calculus to determine the height of the rocket in several different launches. This interdisciplinary approach that combines math and science allowed students to understand how a scientist uses more than one area of study in a single experiment. The class also developed a t-shirt launch earlier this year that was used at our Pink Out game to launch several shirts to our fans! Keep up the great work!!

Starting last Thursday night: Our OHC Champion and #1 seed Girls Soccer team defeated Shawnee 8-0 in tournament play. They will play again today (Monday) against Dayton Christian at Ben Logan HS at 7pm. On Friday night, our Football team defeated Fairbanks 55-0 to finish the regular season 9-1 and they secured a share of the OHC Title. They will host Valley HS this Friday in the first round of the OHSAA Football Playoffs. In addition to cheering at the game this coming Friday, our Cheer Squad will also be competing at the OHC Cheer Competition this coming Saturday. On Saturday, our OHC Champion Girls Cross Country Team won the District Meet for the 7th year in a row. They will run at Regionals on Saturday at Troy HS at 10am and will compete for a chance to go back to the state meet. On Saturday, our OHC Champion Boys Cross Country Team won the District Meet for the 2nd year in a row. They will run at Regionals on Saturday at Troy HS at 10:45am and are also looking to qualify for state. Also on Saturday, our #1 seed Volleyball Team beat Preble Shawnee in 3 sets. They play again today (Monday) at 7:30 at Brookville HS versus Archbishop Alter. Also on Saturday, our Boys Soccer Team travelled to Dixie and won their 2nd tournament game of the post-season, defeating Dixie 2-1. They will play Troy Christian on Tuesday night at Troy Christian at 7pm. And finally, last night, our Marching Band with Flag Corps and Majorettes put on an outstanding performance here at Tiger Stadium in front of a great crowd of supporters. One byproduct of having outstanding sports teams and experiencing post-season success is the many opportunities we have to go out and support them. As a reminder, all competitions are OHSAA tournament games – including the home football game on Friday. No sports passes will work. All tickets can be purchased online via the OHSAA website. There will also be a cash option at the gate. Please consider attending games this week to cheer on your friends and classmates. Ticket purchase: https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets?mibextid=S66gvF
