Hello Families, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with information to share about the remainder of the school year. Since students we will not be returning to the school building for the remainder of the year,I wanted to provide an update on a few items. Elementary and MS/HS families will receive information in the next few days on how to pick up items that belong to students that were left here at the school in desks or lockers. Along with this information will be details on how to return library books, textbooks, iPads, and any other school owned materials at the end of the school year. The last day of school will remain May 28th and your building principal/teachers will provide details of when all work will need to be submitted in order to receive credit for course assignments. Most school related events have been canceled for this school year, however, the district is hopeful that this summer some of the social distancing measures will be relaxed to allow for a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020. Mr. Johnson has sent a survey to students to seek input on options for graduation. This may include postponing the graduation ceremony until July, if necessary, to hold traditional ceremony on school grounds. Other options, like a virtual ceremony or parade have also been discussed. Details about graduation and other events will be shared by the end of next week, with dates, that will allow families to plan accordingly. The district understands how disappointing the closure of school has been for our students and families. We encourage our students to continue to complete schoolwork for the remainder of the fourth quarter. Thank you to all of our staff, students, and parents who have learned alongside us as we continue to improve distance learning at WL-S and make the best of this situation. Have a great evening and weekend.

Hello, This is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with some information regarding internet access. The district recently purchased hotspots through Sprint to help students access the internet that did not have connection at home. After providing hotspots to those families, we have 12 hotspots remaining that will be available to any student/family on a first come, first serve basis. The cost for the lease of the hotspot is $20 for April and May or $180 for 12 months. That is unlimited data, with no cap or slow down speeds for $15/month. This would be something to consider if you would like to try a Sprint hotspot or if you have multiple children in your household who are having trouble accessing the internet at the same time. Please call the school at 937-465-1060 between 8 and 3 pm to find out more information or to request a hotspot while our supply last. Thank you.
On April 20, 2020, at 8:20 pm, or 2020 in military time, WL-S lit up the Tiger stadium for 20 minutes while over 100 cars drove through honking and showing their support for our seniors! As the stadium and scoreboard lit the sky, we were all reminded of the bright future ahead for our seniors. We were hopeful for a time when we can all come back together to celebrate your dedication, accomplishments and resilience. We miss you, we are proud of you, and we stand together with you in this very difficult time. Here is the video from last evening. We are #tigerstrong. #seniors2020 https://youtu.be/VV1T7RzRehI

Seniors,
Tonight we drove by the stadium to salute you and all you have accomplished. We know this isn’t an ideal end to your academic, musical, artistic and sports careers at WL-S, but we hope this small tribute to your accomplishments helps you know how much we appreciate your resiliency in these trying times. There will be a video tomorrow sharing the outpouring of support from our whole community.
With love,
The entire West Liberty-Salem community
