The West Liberty-Salem family was saddened to hear the news that one of our former students in the multiple disability classroom, Aviana Grantham, passed away Monday, January 20th. Aviana was an 8th grade student who started at WL-S last school year when she moved here with her family. She was placed in an intensive needs program at the beginning of this school year due to many medical needs and had been attending another school district for the past 5 months. A decision was made last week for her to return to her family. She was expected to rejoin to the multiple disability classroom, at WL-S today, and the classroom was excited to have her return. Please keep Aviana’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they adjust to life without this special young lady. We are saddened for their loss.
The family would appreciate any donations in her memory to be sent to the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty. Donations will be used to assist with funeral expenses and would be much appreciated.

Dear West Liberty-Salem Parent/Guardian, WL-S will be doing spinal screenings on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Screenings will be for 5th and 7th grade girls and 8th and 9th grade boys. Dr. Jennifer Sertell and Dr. Jeffery Donay, local chiropractors, have volunteered to assist with the screenings. The screening process is simple. Screeners will look at your child's back while he or she stands and bends forward. The screenings will take place in the lockerrooms and students should remember to do the following, Bring shorts to school for the exam, Girls should wear a t-Shirt and sports bra on the exam day. Boys and girls will be screened separately and one at a time. Spinal screening is important for the identification for any abnormalities, like Scoliosis, that can be corrected with treatment.
Also, please remember that it is flu and cold season. If your child has been diagnosed with the flu or other illness follow guidance from the healthcare provider who diagnosed it. Also, do not send your child to school until they are fever free and/or nausea free for 24 hours. Thank you for your cooperation as we do not want the unnecessary spread of these sicknesses.
We hope you enjoyed your weekend!
Congratulations to the WL-S Mock Trial Team - 2020 District Champs!!!
Lily Keller and Cade Clerico won outstanding attorney and Naomi McGill won outstanding witness.

Do you ever wonder what our elementary students do when it’s too cold for outside recess? When temps are in the lower/mid 20’s, students have recess in the cafeteria! There are a number of games to choose from, coloring pages, and blocks to build. Yesterday morning, Mrs. Perdue led a game of Simon Says with our first graders during first recess when it was still just a little too chilly for the little ones!
