The WL-S Varsity Choir participated in the "Silver Melted Into Sound" festival at Wright State University on Friday, May 3rd. This festival was created to bring awareness to music written by underrepresented composers. The choir got to sing for 2 college choral professors after they participated in a day long clinic. The choir did an amazing job representing WL-S!
The West Liberty-Salem FFA Chapter recently attended the 96th Ohio FFA Convention where they celebrated the chapter’s accomplishments over the past year. “This year was amazing for our chapter with many accomplishments along the way,” shared Chapter Reporter Ella Vondenhuevel. Among those include the Charitable Giving Award that is awarded to a chapter that goes above and beyond the community service required by its members. Treasurer Kay Connolly and Secretary Shyanne McClintick both received gold rated officer books and earned a pin on the convention stage. Member Cara Deam was selected by Sunrise Cooperative to join the “Rise Program”, a program developed to encourage employment with Sunrise Cooperative immediately following high school graduation. Sunrise is a leading agricultural and energy cooperative located in Ohio. Greyson Horlsley represented West Liberty-Salem in the Ohio FFA State Band playing the french horn! Greyson tried out for this opportunity earlier in the year and was selected to represent his school in a statewide concert during the convention! Maddox Havens, 2023 Graduate, got the opportunity to join the chapter one last time as a State FFA officer candidate! The chapter also received their 7th place General Livestock Judging plaque. And, Shyanne McClintick received her individual livestock judging plaque. Congratulations to all our members on quite a list of accomplishments!

Jack Bahan was named the Reliant Invitational’s male most valuable Athlete. His 100m effort (11.14) broke Jace Wade’s school record (11.22) set in 2021.
The team will compete Monday at Day 1 of the Ohio Heritage Conference Championships hosted at West Liberty-Salem.

Delaney Jones led the Tigers with a first place finish in the 100 Meter Dash. Her time of 12.14 is a new Tiger Stadium record.
Placing second for WLS were Elise Longshore in pole vault (10'0) and the 4x800 meter relay team of Malia Miller, Addie McAuley, Ashley Yoder and Mallory Bostick (9:53.96) and the 4x100 relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Delaney Jones, Gwen McCullough and Chloe Griffith (50.19).
Third place finishers included Malia Miller in the 1600 Meter Run (5:30.06) and the 3200 Meter Run (11:45.41), the 4x200 Meter Relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Hattie Jacobs, Claire Longshore and Gwen McCullough (1:51.40) and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Ashley Yoder, Gwen McCullough, Delaney Jones and Mallory Bostick (4:13.79).
Claire Longshore chipped in two fourth place finishes in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.52) and the 300 Meter Hurdles (49.18). Also placing fourth were Chloe Griffith in the 100 Meter Dash (12.86), Mallory Bostick in the 400 Meter Dash (1:03.93) and Gwen McCullough in the 800 Meter Run (2:30.21).
Seventh place finishers included Addie McAuley in the 800 Meter Run (2:33.6) and Lyndee Harrison in the shot put (28'10.5), and Alaina Irving placed eighth in the 100 Meter Hurdles (17.01).
The WLS B team saw the 4x800 relay team of Lily Smith, Mariska Smith, Mylee Dooley and Taylor Kennedy place seventh (11:25.77) and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Lily Smith, Emma Smith, Mariska Smith and Taylor Kennedy place eighth (4:56.87)
West Liberty-Salem will host the Ohio Heritage Conference Championships Monday, May 6th and Thursday, May 9th.
West Liberty-Salem FFA recently attended the State Convention where a record breaking 7 members received their State Degrees! The State Degree is the highest degree a State can bestow upon its members and is awarded to students who have are high achievers within their chapter and beyond. The seven WL-S students receiving their State Degree checked a long list of boxes including successful SAE projects, participation in FFA competitions, leadership activities both in FFA and their community, maintaining required GPA, the required high school attendance rate, and community service hours. Today is 'School Lunch Hero Day'! Please help us thank our amazing food service department for making sure our students are reaching their full potential by receiving healthy and nutritious meals each day! Kindergarten students were a sea of purple today in support of Cystic Fibrosis Awareness for the month of May and fellow Kindergartener, Jameson Johnson! WL-S will hold our annual Cystic Fibrosis Auction tomorrow and the CF walk on May 19th, at Lions Park. Everyone is welcome to attend the CF walk at Lions Park! Details are attached!

5th graders competed in the Amazing Race today as a fun post state testing activity! They had stations set up in and around the elementary and playground where they practiced their math skills against fellow classmates! Winners were 1st place- Caizen Anders and Michael Beard, and
2nd place tie- Chloe Staten and Zoey Richardson, Hannah Thoman and Ila Turner! Many thanks to our elementary staff, parent helpers, and students for a fun afternoon full of fun and active learning!

Seniors had lunch at the Mad River Farm Market as a class today. This annual tradition, hosted by WLS, allow many of the senior teachers and Mr. Johnson to enjoy one last group event with the graduates. Teachers serve lunch and students get to enjoy pizza and time together outside of school! It was a great time for everyone!

The West Liberty-Salem After Prom parent committee put together a fantastic After Prom for more than 200 students on Saturday evening! The theme was inspired by a Caribbean Cruise complete with a Luau inspired meal, Tiki Coffee Bar, karaoke, bounce houses, games, and more! The committee raised more than $9,000 in cash, gift cards, and prizes that students won throughout the night. Notable prizes included 4 TV's, a mini fridge, tickets to sporting events and attractions, Apple Air Pods, and cash prizes of $100, $200, and $250! West Liberty-Salem hosted Prom on Saturday, April 27th at the Urbana Country Club. More than 200 students were in attendance to dance the night away in honor of the Senior Class of 2024. A Night on the Red Carpet was an appropriate theme for what was certainly a wonderful night hosted by the junior class! This year, Prom Royalty included King Carter Titus and Queen Anna Byrd! Prom Prince was Teagon Miller and Princess was Anna Cole! Congratulations!
