Mrs. Roberts 1st Period Freshman Physical Science class conducted an experiment with the 3rd grade for Physics Club. They built parachutes and tested them. Each 3rd grade student got to help construct and test the parachute. Freshman enjoyed working with third graders and our younger Tigers lover getting to interact with high school students! Great work!

Mrs. Fullenkamp's 8th grade scientists are at it again, but this time they are learing about the Earth's crust! A little less messy than their Oobleck lab about the Earth's core, but still fun!

Senior NYC Trip in April 2024
Attached you will find important information regarding our April 16-20 Senior Trip to New York City. The cost is $730 per student.
Two important items to highlight:
Students can go ahead and register for the trip and pay their $130 deposit. This trip will be limited to the first fifty students to sign-up and pay their deposit. If additional students are interested, they will be placed on a waiting list. Registration and all payments will be made online or via mail directly with Prodigy Student Travel.
We are holding an optional informational meeting for Seniors and parents/guardians this Thursday at 6:00pm in the cafetorium.

School Psychologist week, recognized in November, highlights the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive. This year's theme is " The Power of Possibility ."
Erin Kegley, West Liberty-Salem School Pyschologist was an intervention specialist at Northeastern for several years.
She also was a school psychology assistant/Intern School Psychologist at Oakwood City Schools prior to joining the team at WL-S.
She attended University of Dayton and earned her Educational Specialist (Ed.S) in School Psychology in August of 2023.
She also attended Wittenberg University and earned the a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education with a Pre-K to 3rd Grade Teaching Licensure and K-12 Intervention Specialist Licensure (Mild-Moderate)
Erin and her husband reside in the Northwestern School District. She has two amazing children who keep them busy. WL-S is blessed to have her as part of our team.

WL-S Elementary will take part in STACK UP during their specials classes this week! STACK UP is what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.”
We would like to STACK UP the local food pantries as well. During the week of
Nov 13 -Nov 17, we are asking elementary students to bring in items to stack up
the food pantry shelves.
The local food pantries suggest the following items as items in need:

Help us help others this season by sending donations with your students this week. A collection table will be located outside of the elementary cafeteria all week.
The Madison-Champaign ESC hosted their 5th Annual Community STAR’s Recognition event late last week. For the past 5 years the ESC asks the schools within their region to nominate a student that idealizes ‘Servant Leadership’ as characterized by Serving Others, Teamwork, Attitude and Reliability.
West Liberty-Salem selected two students to nominate for this year’s events. Seniors Tommi Payne and Carter Titus were nominated by Alycia Smith & Molly Smith (along with collaborative efforts with Tim Wolfe and Paul Waibel). The ESC reviews nominations and then selects and invites one student to attend the recognition ceremony. Carter Titus was selected by the ESC to attend this year’s event. Superintendent Kraig Hissong and High School Counselor Molly Smith accompanied Carter and his parents to the event.
Students from each school who are selected to attend are asked to select a ‘Person of Impact’ to be recognized alongside them. Carter selected High School Counselor Molly Smith for her commitment to getting students involved in school and the community, believing in her students, and her positive attitude.
Congratulations to both Tommi and Carter for their nominations and the excellent work they do in their school and community and to Molly Smith for inspiring students to make an impact.
Reminder! There will be no school tomorrow, Friday, November 10th. Our teachers will be in Professional Development training. Professional Development helps our teachers and administrators stay up to date on education best practices and allows them to share ideas and methods that develop new ways to teach our students!
In honor of Veteran's Day which is tomorrow, we began our day with a tribute to our staff members who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you to all our military personnel for the sacrifices you have made for our freedom.
Parent/Teacher conferences begin tomorrow. If you need to schedule an appointment or make changes to your existing appointment, please call the main office at 465-1060. The Scholastic Elementary Book Fair will be open from 3-6:00 PM. Stop in the elementary library before or after your conference!
West Liberty-Salem is currently seeking a school bus driver. Candidates must meet all state requirements and qualifications for a school bus driver and must have attended an annual bus driver in-service. Drivers will have the opportunity to receive at least 3 hours per day plus trips, full time benefits (family and single options available), paid training reimbursement is available for successfully completed programs and hired licensed drivers, full-time, part-time, or substitute.
The National Honor Society recently hosted their annual blood drive with Solvita Blood Centers. Thirteen faculty members and 29 students and staff registered to donate blood allowing for 22 units to be collected. The NHS exceeded their goal at 115% and donations will go on to save 66 lives! We have several students who wish to receive their red cords for graduation and are well on their way. The red cord represents that they have donated at least 3 times either in school or in community blood drives. Great work, West Liberty-Salem students and staff!
The WL-S band program is selling gift cards to Hillside Greenhouse for the winter season.
Gift cards are in $25 increments and are at cost ($25 per card).

It's Book Fair time! Students will bring home a newsletter regarding our upcoming elementary Scholastic Book Fair that beings on Thursday afternoon during parent/teacher conferences. Parents can stop by between 3:00-6:00 PM to begin shopping for your students' favorite books! The shop will re-open for official student business on November 13th through the 15th, 8-3:00 PM daily. On Thursday, November 16th, the book fair will offer its final day with extended shopping hours from 8-6:00 PM.
Payment methods include cash, check, and credit/debit card, or eWallet (a digital payment account available through Scholastic). Parents may enable eWallet at Scholastic.com by clicking "find a fair". The link will also allow you to shop online if you are unable to attend while still helping us earn books for our school!

Mrs. Fullenkamp's eighth grade science classes had some messy fun while studying the earth's interior! The mantle is a solid, but since it sometimes acts like a liquid, students used Oobleck to better understand how this happens. Hands on learning always makes the lesson stick, and in this case, quite literally!
